Umut Oran (born October 16, 1962 in Istanbul , Turkey ) is a Turkish textile entrepreneur and politician.

Life

Oran completed his secondary education at the French Saint Benoît High School in Istanbul and graduated from the Faculty of English Economics at Marmara University . Oran is fluent in Turkish , French and English . As a recreational footballer, Oran is a player in the old men's team from Galatasaray Istanbul . He is married.

He was chairman of the Türkiye Giyim Sanayicileri Derneği (TGSD), the Bolu Ticaret ve Sanai Odası Meclisi and the TOBB Türkiye Konfeksyon ve Hazır Giyim Sanayi Meclisi . Internationally, Oran was chairman of the Dünya Hazır Giyim Federasyonu from 2002 to 2003 and at the same time chairman of Euratex ( Avrupa Tekstil ve Hazır Giyim Organizasyonu ) from 2000 to 2005 .

As one of the deputy chairmen of the largest Turkish opposition party, the Republican People's Party (CHP), Umut Oran has been a member of the Grand National Assembly for his home province of Istanbul (3rd constituency) since the parliamentary elections in Turkey in 2011 . Within Parliament, he is chairman of the Committee on Harmonization of Relations with the European Union .
