The Environmental Liability Act regulates no-fault system liability in the event of environmental impact. If someone is killed, his body or health is injured or something is damaged by an environmental impact emanating from a facility named in Annex 1 of the Act, the owner of the facility is obliged to compensate the injured party for the resulting damage (Section 1 UmweltHaftG).
It is structured similar to the Product Liability Act and other laws as strict liability .
