Indomitable. A true story of resilience and the struggle for survival (original title Unbroken. A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption ) is the biography published in 2011 by Laura Hillenbrand about the life of Louis Zamperini (1917-2014). The work was published by Klett-Cotta in Germany. The American original edition was published by Random House in 2010 .

The non-fiction book describes, among other things, the experiences of the American Zamperini as an Olympic runner over 5,000 meters at the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin . As a bomber protect having a plane crash a Consolidated B-24 survived for 47 days on a boat in the Pacific, Zamperini was in the subsequent captivity abused in Japan and tortured. In September 1945 he was able to return to the USA.

The volume became an international bestseller and received many awards. It also forms the basis for the film Unbroken ( 2014 ), which was released in German cinemas on January 15, 2015. In 2014 a new edition of the book was released, entitled Unbroken. The incredible life story of Louis Zamperini. Photos from the film were used for the cover. The film Unbroken: Path to Redemption , based on the final chapters of the novel, followed in 2018 .
