- February 18 : The Mannheim publishing house Brockhaus sells the manuscript of the memoirs of Giacomo Casanova (“ Histoire de ma vie ”) to the French Ministry of Culture for 7.2 million euros . At this point in time it is the highest sum ever paid for a manuscript.
