Derek Landy

Derek Landy (born October 23, 1974 in Lusk ) is an Irish writer and screenwriter.

life and work

Landy wrote the scripts for the thriller comedy Dead Bodies (2003) and the zombie film Boy Eats Girl (2005).

From 2007 to 2014 nine volumes of his youth book series Skulduggery Pleasant were published , all of which were published in German translation. In 2008 Landy was awarded the Red House Children's Book Award, the second, fifth and eighth volume each won the Irish Book Award in the “Irish Children's Book - senior” category in 2009, 2010 and 2013. In addition, first volume voted Irish Book of the Decade in 2010.

In 2007, Landy sold the rights to film the books to Warner Bros. According to a rumor, a film adaptation of The Gentleman with the Firehand should be made in 2013 . On his blog, however, Landy stated that he had withdrawn the rights because he did not agree with the concept of the script.
