Tadeusz Słobodzianek

Tadeusz Słobodzianek , with the pseudonym Jan Koniecpolski (born April 26, 1955 in Jenisseisk , Soviet Union ) is a Polish playwright , theater director , television director and theater critic . Since 2012 he has been the managing director and artistic director of the Warsaw Dramatic Theater .

Life

Słobodzianek was born in 1955 in Jenisseisk, where his parents were deported in 1944 for their activities in the Armia Krajowa . In December 1955 he moved with his family to Białystok , where he graduated from high school in 1974. From 1974 to 1979 he studied drama at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow . From 1978 to 1979 he wrote theater reviews for the Krakow biweekly Student and from 1979 to 1982 for the magazine Polityka .

In 1980 he made his debut as a dramatist with the children's play Historia o żebraku i osiołku at the Pinokio Theater in Łódź . In 1982 he made his debut as a theater director with the play Osmędeusze by Miron Białoszewski at the Stefan Jaracz Theater in Łódź. From 1981 to 1982 he was artistic director at the Wojciech Bogusławski Theater in Kalisz and in 1982 at the Polish Theater in Poznan . From 1982 to 1983 he worked as a program advisor at the Stefan Jaracz Theater in Łódź and from 1984 to 1989 at the Puppet Theater in Białystok. From 1988 to 1989 he taught at the Puppetry Faculty of the State Theater School in Białystok. From 1989 to 1991 artistic director at the Miniatura Theater in Gdansk .

In 1991 he founded the Towarzystwo Wierszalin (today Wierszalin Theater ) with Piotr Tomaszuk , of which he was manager until 2003. From 1994 to 1995 he was dramaturge at the Dramatic Theater in Warsaw and from 1999 to 2003 at the New Theater in Łódź. In 2003 he founded the Dramatu Laboratory , which initially cooperated with the National Theater in Warsaw and since 2005 with the Towarzystwo Autorów Teatralnych . From 2001 to 2012 he lectured in the Reportażu Laboratory at the University of Warsaw . From 2010 to 2012 he was also director of the Theater na Woli , until it was institutionally combined with the Gustaw Holoubek Theater to form the Dramatic Theater of the City of Warsaw. He has been the director there since 2012.
