Friedrich Gundolf Prize

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Friedrich Gundolf Prize for the mediation of German culture abroad was founded in 1964 by the German Academy for Language and Poetry . The award is presented annually, as is the Johann Heinrich Voss Prize for Translation at the Academy's spring meeting. The prize has been endowed with 15,000 euros since 2013.

The award commemorates the poet and literary scholar Friedrich Gundolf (1880–1931). Until 1989 it was called the Friedrich Gundolf Prize for German Studies Abroad and was only awarded to representatives of foreign universities. The renaming should also make it possible to recognize the teaching of German culture outside of universities.

The jury has a term of three years and currently (2017) consists of Günter Blamberger , László F. Földényi , Daniel Göske, Claire de Oliveira, Marisa Siguan, Irène Heidelberger-Leonard and Leszek Żyliński .
