Hubert Orłowski (born May 22, 1937 in Podleiken , Osterode district in East Prussia ) is a Polish Germanist. He is a retired full professor at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan , professor at the West Institute in Poznan, employee of the Borussia Foundation in Olsztyn , and a full member of the Polish Academy of Sciences .

Life

Youth and education

He was born in 1937 in the village of Podleiken near Dietrichswalde as the son of Alois Orlowski and his wife Monika Orlowski, nee Preylowski. After the end of the war, he attended the Polish elementary school, passed the Abitur (Polish: Matura) and studied German at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan until 1961 . In the years 1976–1977 and 1980 he continued his education as a scholarship holder of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in the Federal Republic of Germany.

Scientific career

In 1977 he was at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan for Professor appointed. From 1984–1985 he taught as a visiting professor at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel and from 1987–1988 at the Karl-Franzens- Universität Graz .

He currently holds the post of Rector of the Samuel Bogumił Linde University of Foreign Languages ​​in Poznan . He has been a member of the Borussia Foundation Council since 2006 . Hubert Orłowski is Deputy Chairman of the Scientific Council of the Center for Historical Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Berlin.

He is interested in German literature and culture, especially during the Third Reich, historical semantics and research into stereotypes , as well as German-Polish relations in the field of literature. He explained u. a. the emergence of the “Polish economy” stereotype.

Orłowski compiled the anthology Współczesna myśl literaturoznawcza w Republice Federalnej Niemiec (Contemporary Ideas in Literary Studies in the Federal Republic of Germany) (1986). Together with Christoph Kleßmann he edits the “Posener Deutsche Bibliothek” ( Poznańska Biblioteka Niemiecka ). Together with Günter Hartung, Hubert Orłowski organized a well-known conference series "Traditions and the search for tradition of German fascism ".
