Harrassowitz Verlag

The Harrassowitz Verlag is a German science publisher in the legal form of a GmbH & Co. KG with its registered office in Wiesbaden .

The publishing house was founded on July 1, 1872 by Otto Harrassowitz together with Oscar Richter as a publishing bookstore with an attached antiquarian bookshop in Leipzig . In 1875 Otto Harrassowitz took over sole management of the company. In 1921 he was followed by his son Hans Harrassowitz († April 21, 1964) in the management.

During the Second World War , the publishing house was completely destroyed in an air raid on Leipzig on December 4, 1943. After the expropriation in 1949, the publishing house moved to Wiesbaden in 1953, where reconstruction began as a commission publishing house.

The focus of the publisher lies in the fields of book studies , library studies , oriental studies (e.g. Studies in Oriental Religions ), Slavic studies and various philologies . The publications of Monumenta Germaniae Historica have also been published by Harrassowitz-Verlag since 2013 .
