Juri Bohdanowytsch Prochasko ( Ukrainian Юрій Богданович Прохасько , scientific transliteration Jurij Bohdanovyč Prochasʹko ; born April 28, 1970 in Ivano-Frankivsk , Ukrainian SSR ) is a Ukrainian essayist, translator, writer.

Life

Jurko Prochasko was born in 1970 in Ivano-Frankivsk in western Ukraine , the former Stanislau in East Galicia , and is the brother of the writer Taras Prochasko . From 1987 to 1992 he studied German in Lviv . Since 1993 Prochasko has been working as a literary scholar at the Institute for Literary Research of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences in Lviv, where he works a. a. on the reception of Galicia in Polish literature and literary studies. At the end of the 1990s he trained as a psychoanalyst in Altaussee, Austria . In 1999 he founded the Ukrainian Translators Association. During the Orange Revolution in 2004, Prochasko was one of the activists on the Kyiv Majdan . In 2007 Prochasko worked as curator of the Lemberg exhibition in the Jewish Museum Berlin . Scholarships and research stays have repeatedly taken him to Austria and Germany. a. in the artist house Villa Waldberta in Munich. In 2011/12 he was a fellow at the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin and in 2014/15 he was a visiting fellow at the Institute for Human Sciences (IWM) in Vienna. In 2010 he was appointed a member of the Saxon Academy of the Arts .

The event series “Movable Territories” organized by the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt , in cooperation with the German Academy for Language and Poetry and the Hessischer Rundfunk, in the Prochasko with Jurij Andruchowytsch , Serhij Schadan , Tanja Maljartschuk in February attracted attention 2014 Hanne Kulessa the situation and prospects of Ukraine after euromaidan themed -revolution. Prochasko is considered to be an important cultural mediator between Ukraine and Germany who is actively committed to integrating Ukraine into Europe.

Prochasko writes for the liberal-democratic online magazine Ji, which is published in Lviv in German, Polish and Ukrainian . He lives and works in Lviv.
