László F. Földényi

László F. Földényi (born April 19, 1952 in Debrecen ) is a Hungarian essayist , art theorist , literary critic and translator .

life and work

Földényi studied Hungarian and English studies in Budapest until 1975 and initially worked as a magazine editor and dramaturge at various theaters. 1980 to 1986 he was editor of the Hungarian "Zeitschrift für Theaterwissenschaft". 1982 guest lecturer at the chair for aesthetics at the Budapest University, 1988/89 guest of the Berlin artist program of the DAAD . Since 1991 Földényi has been a lecturer at the Institute for Comparative Literature at the Loránd Eötvös University in Budapest. In 2005 he was a visiting fellow at the IFK in Vienna.

He has translated plays by contemporary dramatists, including those by Edward Bond , Max Frisch and Heiner Müller, into Hungarian. He wrote numerous articles for the German-language newspaper Pester Lloyd in Budapest. He is co-editor of a Hungarian edition of Heinrich von Kleist's works . Földényi is one of the most important intellectuals in his home country. He lives and works in Budapest.
