Jan Drees

Jan Drees (born May 9, 1979 in Haan ) is a German writer , journalist , presenter and former athlete . Since July 2016 he has been the literary editor at Deutschlandfunk .

Live and act

Until 2003, Drees started as an 800-meter runner for TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen . He was the Junior European Cup winner in Ljubljana in 1996 and won eight medals at German championships between 1996 and 1999 . In 1997 he took first place in the U18 international competition in Frankfurt (Oder) , in 1998 he won the gold medal at the German indoor youth championships in Chemnitz over 800 meters.

After a traineeship at the German branch of the advertising agency BBDO , Drees studied - without a high school diploma, but with the help of a so-called gifted access - a. a. with Peter Matussek , Dirk Matejovski, Peter Trawny and Andreas Blödorn in Düsseldorf and Wuppertal, recent German literary studies , medieval studies , philosophy and communication studies . Since April 2016, Drees has been one of the moderators of the literary program Büchermarkt on Deutschlandfunk. In July of the same year he succeeded Denis Scheck as literary editor.
