Per Øhrgaard
Per Øhrgaard (born February 6, 1944 in Copenhagen ) is a Danish German studies specialist , language historian and translator .
Life
Øhrgaard graduated from high school Vestre Borgerdydskole in Copenhagen in 1962 . He had already attended a summer academy at the University of Tübingen when he was still at school in 1961 . After high school, he began studying German at the University of Copenhagen , but then also studied at the Free University of Berlin and the University of Kiel . In 1969 he completed his studies in Copenhagen with the degree Mag.art. , which is roughly comparable to a German doctoral degree .
He then worked as a research assistant in the field of German literature and completed his habilitation in 1978 with a study on Goethe's educational novel Wilhelm Meister's apprenticeship years . From 1980 to 2003 Øhrgaard was Professor of German Philology at the University of Copenhagen. He was then visiting professor at Copenhagen Business School from 2003 to 2007 and Professor of German and European Studies there until 2013.
In 1991 he became a member of the Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and has been a member of the Danske Akademi since 2001 , as its secretary since 2012. He was also a member of PEN Denmark from 1978 , its president from 1983 to 1990 and again since 2015. Since 2004 he has been a member of the German Academy for Language and Poetry in Darmstadt . The Academy of Sciences in Göttingen he belongs to as a corresponding member.
From 1993 to 2013 Øhrgaard was a member of the Board of Directors of the Carlsberg Foundation and until 2014 of the Carlsberg Brewery's Supervisory Board .
