Carlsberg Foundation
The Carlsberg Foundation , in Danish Carlsbergfondet , is a foundation based in the Danish city of Copenhagen . It was founded in 1876 by the Danish industrialist and philanthropist Jacob Christian Jacobsen , who gave the foundation shares in the Carlsberg brewery which he had built up and later bequeathed his inheritance to it. According to his decree, the foundation holds at least 51 percent of the capital in the brewery to the present day.
The foundation was originally created to finance the Carlsberg Laboratory , a scientific research facility. Two years later, she also took on the maintenance of the National History Museum in Frederiksborg Castle and, after the conversion of Jacobsen's private art collection into the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek Museum, also financed it. Since 1931 the foundation has awarded a scholarship named after Jacobsen . After the Tuborg Brewery was taken over by the Carlsberg Brewery in 1970, the Carlsberg Foundation has also continued the activities of the Tuborg Foundation since 1991, which includes in particular the promotion of social projects and other activities with social benefit.
