Henrik Steffens Prize

The Henrik Steffens Prize was founded in 1936 by the German entrepreneur Alfred Toepfer , whose political role and attitude were controversial during the National Socialist era. It is named after the Norwegian-born German philosopher Henrik Steffens . He was recognized for cultural achievements in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Iceland in the arts, town planning, landscaping, folklore and the humanities.

The prize was awarded annually, was most recently endowed with 20,000 euros and combined with a one-year study grant at a German university. The award ceremony was carried out by the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel. The Henrik Steffens Prize was awarded for the last time in 2005.
