Villy Sørensen
Villy Sørensen (born January 13, 1929 in Frederiksberg , † December 16, 2001 in Copenhagen ) was a Danish prose writer , philosopher , translator, publicist and literary critic .
biography
Sørensen graduated from Vestre Borgerdyd Gymnasium in Copenhagen in 1947 . He then studied philosophy and psychology at the Universities of Copenhagen and Freiburg , but broke off his studies in 1953 without a degree (in 1979, however, he received an honorary doctorate from the University of Copenhagen). That year he also published his literary debut Sære Historier , a collection of fantastic short stories . Sære Historier has won several prizes and is considered by many critics to be the beginning of literary modernism in Denmark.
In the following years Sørensen lived in Hvidovre and worked as a journalist. From 1959 he published the magazine Vindrosen with Klaus Rifbjerg . He also published culturally critical and philosophical writings, essays, books and other prose collections. In 1965 he became a member of the Danish Academy . Sørensen died in Copenhagen in 2001 and was buried in Taarbæk's cemetery.
Act
Sørensen is considered to be the most important Danish philosopher of the 20th century. He was influenced by the existentialism of Martin Heidegger , Marxism and Sigmund Freud . His stories are compared with those of Franz Kafka . Sørensen's importance can also be seen in the fact that some of his works have been translated into several languages. Works that Sørensen translated into Danish include Grimm's Fairy Tales and The Castle and The Judgment by Franz Kafka. He also re-edited works by Herman Bang and Søren Kierkegaard, among others .
He has received several awards for his literary work, including the Nordic Council Literature Prize , the most important award for writers from the Nordic countries .
