Veikko Antero Koskenniemi (born July 8, 1885 in Oulu , † August 4, 1962 in Turku ) was a Finnish writer.

Life

In 1921 Koskenniemi was appointed professor of literary history in Turku ; In 1948 he became a member of the Academy of Finland ( Suomen Akatemia ) . Koskenniemi was one of Finland's most popular writers . His role models were among others Goethe and Johan Ludvig Runeberg . He became known through his poems , travel books and essays. In the folklore received is his text to Jean Sibelius ' symphonic seal Finlandia .

In 1941 he took part in the Weimar Poets 'Meeting , where the European writers' association was founded by the European writers willing to collaborate . He wrote about the stars in various poems, and he was a founding member of the Torun Ursa Society for Amateur Astronomers. The 1940 discovered asteroid (1697) Koskenniemi is after him named .
