(1697) Koskenniemi is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 8 September 1940 by the Finnish astronomer Heikki A. Alikoski in Turku was discovered.

The name of the asteroid is reminiscent of the popular Finnish poet Veikko Antero Koskenniemi (1885–1962).
