Fritz Reuter Prize (Hamburg)
The Fritz Reuter Prize is a literary prize for people who have made a contribution to Low German . It is named after Fritz Reuter (1810–1874), who is considered one of the most important German poets of the Low German language.
Since 1955, the prize has been awarded every two years by the Alfred Toepfer Foundation , and since 2000 by the Carl Toepfer Foundation in Hamburg . From 1955 to 1982 the prize was one of five prizes for Low German literature from the Alfred Toepfer Foundation. Then all five were merged under the name Fritz Reuter Prize.
The prize money is 10,000 euros (as of 2020).
