Blankenburg district

The Blankenburg district was an administrative unit in the Saale department in the Kingdom of Westphalia . It was formed by the Royal Decree of December 24, 1807 and existed until 1813.

territory

The district consisted for the most part of the former Brunswick County Blankenburg with the County of Wernigerode and the Quedlinburg Abbey in the east, which was previously Prussian . It bordered on the south of the Nordhausen district and extended to the entire eastern Upper Harz. In the east the district bordered on the Electoral Saxon Mansfeld and the Anhaltinian principalities, in the north on the district Halberstadt .

In 1807 the district had 53,294 inhabitants and an area of ​​17.4 mi². In 1811, 54,877 people lived there within 22.72 square miles . 157 of them were Catholic, 452 Reformed and 99 Jewish.

The district was headed by a sub-prefect . The sub-prefect of the Blankenburg district was called (von) Hohnstein and had his seat in Blankenburg .

The district council to control the tax lists was formed by Messrs. Kulemann and Eggeling, a Freiherr von Hagen, Heckert and Hermes, Messrs. Krage, Lohmeyer, Solbrig, Timpe, Walther and Wilhelmi.

Courts of the Peace were located in Blankenburg, Elbingerode, Derenburg, Ermsleben, Ilsenburg, Hasselfelde and two each in the city of Wernigerode and the city of Quedlinburg.
