Bolko Bullerdiek

Bolko Bullerdiek (born January 9, 1939 in Mbozi , Tanzania , on a missionary station) is a Low German writer .

Life

Bullerdiek was born in Tanzania, where his father worked as a craftsman at the Moravian mission station in Rungwe near Tukuyu . He grew up in Bookholzberg , Ganderkesee municipality ( Lower Saxony ). He attended the commercial school in Delmenhorst and then did an apprenticeship as an industrial clerk. He passed his Abitur in Oldenburg and studied teaching in Hamburg . He stayed in the Hanseatic city and initially worked there for ten years at a vocational school, where he taught literature, German and politics. He then worked for 28 years at the State Institute for Teacher Training and School Development . He now lives in Hamburg and has two grown daughters. Occasionally he visits his old home in Bookholzberg and tells stories from Low German.

In 1993 Bullerdiek received the Freudenthal Prize ; as early as 1989 he came in second place at the award ceremony. In 1995 he was awarded the Fritz Reuter Prize of the Alfred Toepfer Foundation. The competition Vertell it out of the NDR in 2000 his story won Vun'n course af on "Dat eerste time," the first place. In 2016 Bullerdiek won the 20th Borsla Prize of the Borsla Association for Low German Language and Literature in Bösel for his collection of stories Spleten ut uns Tied . In 2018 he received the Low German Literature Prize of the City of Kappeln for "his extensive and varied life's work."

Bullerdiek is a member of the editorial board of Quickborn magazine and a board member of the Bevensen-Tagung association. Among other things, he is a member of the “Writers in Schleswig-Holstein” association and the “Stormarner Writers' Circle”.
