The State Institute for Teacher Education and School Development (LI) in Hamburg-Eimsbüttel is a service center of the Hamburg Authority for Schools and Vocational Training , which serves to train teachers and improve schools.

history

In 1925 the teacher training institutes in Hamburg were closed. The training of elementary school teachers was academized and should henceforth take place at the university. The Institute for Teacher Training (IfL) was founded in 1925 to bring together the existing educational institutions for teachers. The first director of the institute was Rudolf Peter . His successor Herbert Theodor Becker headed the institute until it closed in 1936.

In the time of National Socialism from 1936 until the cessation of operations in 1942, the institute was run as a teacher training department at the college for teacher training and the Hanseatic college for teacher training. In 1946 the institute for teacher training resumed its independent operation, now again under the direction of Rudolf Peter. As part of the re-education , the institute for teacher training now organized special courses for young teachers who had only received their education during the Nazi era. In 1950 Anne Banaschewski took over the management of the institute, then in 1966 Hans-Joachim Reincke.

The State Institute for Teacher Education and School Development was founded in 2003 as a successor organization, and seven departments of the authority for schools and vocational training were brought together in it. In 2010, director Peter Daschner, who had headed the state institute during the reorganization, retired.

building

Building of the LI seen from the Hohe Weide

The building at Hohen Weide 16 / Felix-Dahn-Strasse No. 3 and 7 was designed by Albert Erbe as a school building. Fritz Schumacher revised this design and changed it significantly. The building on the corner of two streets has a protruding corner wing and a small tower on a hipped roof . The top floor has polygonal protruding windows, a typical Schumacher detail of that time. The gym in the yard was demolished. A side wing of the building has a modern extension, which affects the appearance. The building is a listed building .
