Heinrich Steinfest (born April 10, 1961 in Albury , Australia ) is an Austrian writer and visual artist .

biography

The Austrian Heinrich Steinfest was born in Australia, but grew up in Vienna . He lived there as a freelance artist until the end of the 1990s. Today he lives as a painter and writer mainly in Stuttgart . Steinfest is married and has one son. He is also active as a runner.

In the mid-1990s, he published his first literary works, mainly surreal and science fiction stories. In 1996 his first detective novel The One Man Plot followed . In addition to novels and contributions to anthologies, he occasionally writes mostly essayistic articles for newspapers (e.g. in the Stuttgarter Zeitung and the context: weekly newspaper , including the Stuttgarturen ) and in magazines such as Motorrad , Merian Stuttgart (2008) and in the l iteraturb l att .

He is one of the most prominent and exposed opponents of Stuttgart 21 and was represented at many demonstrations with speeches.

He dedicated his novel Der Allesforscher to his brother Michael Steinfest, who had a fatal mountaineering accident at the age of 23 .

Awards

Heinrich Steinfest received the Bavarian Book Prize 2016 in the fiction category for "The life and death of airplanes".
