Schiller Prize of the City of Mannheim
The City of Mannheim has awarded the Schiller Prize of the City of Mannheim since 1954. The prize is intended to tie in with Friedrich Schiller's work in Mannheim and his connection with the national theater there. It was donated on the occasion of the 175th theater anniversary of the National Theater.
It honors personalities who “have made an outstanding contribution to cultural development through their work” (statutes). The award is presented every two years and was endowed with 10,000 euros until 2018; In December 2018, the municipal council's culture committee decided to double the prize money to 20,000 euros.
