Jaimy Gordon (born July 4, 1944 in Baltimore ) is an American university teacher and writer.

Life

Gordon began her studies at Antioch College , Ohio , from which she graduated with a BA . She received an MA in English Literature from Brown University in 1972 and her PhD there in 1975 in Creative Writing . Gordon has been teaching MFA at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo since 1981 , where she received a professorship in 1992.

She had her first attempts at writing in 1972 when she published an "underground fantasy". In the 1970s she brought out specially designed editions of poetry in small editions. After taking a break from writing in 1999, she surprisingly won the National Book Award for Fiction in 2010 with her fourth novel, Lord of Misrule . The novel was published in German translation in 2012 as The Outsiders .
