Ingo Herzke (* 1966 in Alfeld (Leine) ) is a German literary translator .

Herzke was best known in 2000 for the translation of AL Kennedy's novel Gleißendes Glück . All of her works, except for the invitation to dance , have been translated into German by him. He also translated the bestselling Rausch by John Griesemer and The Sovereign Reader by Alan Bennett . Other authors he has translated include Aravind Adiga , Becky Albertalli , Kate De Goldi , Bret Easton Ellis , Paula Fox , AM Homes , Nick Hornby , MJ Hyland ,Jay McInerney , Rick Moody , Jeff Noon , Alex Ross , Edward St Aubyn, and Gary Shteyngart .

For the translation of Far Away from AL Kennedy's A Immaculate Man (2001), Chapter 28 from Rick Moody's The Water Seekers (2006) and a chapter from Gary Shteyngart's Super Sad True Love Story (2011), he was each awarded the Hamburg Prize for Translators . Two of the youth novels he translates, Nur three words by Becky Albertalli (2017) and Kompass ohne Norden by Neal and Brendan Shusterman (2019), received the prize of the youth jury of the German Youth Literature Prize .

Herzke grew up in Wrisbergholzen . He studied Classical Philology, English and History at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen and the University of Glasgow .

Herzke lives in Hamburg with his wife and two children. He is a member of the Association of German-Language Translators of Literary and Scientific Works , VdÜ.
