Elisabeth Escher

Elisabeth Escher (* 1956 in Wels , Upper Austria ) is an Austrian writer . She became known, among other things, as the author of the filmed novel Hanna's Sleeping Dogs .

life and work

Elisabeth Escher was born in Wels in 1956 and grew up there. She studied English and Romance languages at the University of Salzburg . After graduating, she taught at a Salzburg grammar school and at the Salzburg Pedagogical Institute and worked for many years as a freelance journalist for the Salzburger Nachrichten

Her literary breakthrough came with the autobiographical novel Hanna's Sleeping Dogs , a literary reworking of a piece of Austrian post-war history from the 1960s. This was with Hannelore Elsner in the lead role, directed by Andreas Gruber filmed and gained international success (Golden Goblet Award "Best Screenplay", Shanghai International Film Festival in 2016, Bavarian Film Award 2015 for the best film music). Fiction and film are an integral part of teaching at secondary schools and are recommended by the universities of education, the Hessian Teaching Academy on behalf of the Hessian Ministry of Culture and the Bavarian State Institute for School Quality and Educational Research as an interdisciplinary project for German and history lessons. As a didactician and textbook author, Escher created teaching materials for the novel herself.

Escher lives and works in Salzburg and is a member of the Salzburg Authors 'Group , the Austrian Writers' Association and PEN International .

In addition to prose works, Escher is the author of numerous poems. The volume of poetry yesterday's gallows put into today is a poetic continuation of the novel Hanna's sleeping dogs . In addition, Escher is the author of children's literature. She is also the author of approved Italian textbooks for children and young people ( Ciao bambini , Romeo e Giulia ).
