The Salzburg Authors' Group (SAG) is an Austrian association of writers from the city and state of Salzburg . As part of an Austrian writers' congress in Vienna in 1981, measures to improve the situation of Austrian writers were called for. This gave rise to the idea of ​​creating a regionally working group in Salzburg with corresponding cultural-political goals. In the same year, such a group was formed in the form of a publicly subsidized association under the present name. SAG has been based in this location since the Salzburg Literature House was founded in 1991.

The Tyrolean-born author Gerold Foidl acted as the first chairman from 1981 to 1982 . After his death, several people took over this function, including Margot Koller and, for well over a decade, the Salzburg writer and poet Christine Haidegger . Ludwig Laher was also on the board for a while . From 2007 to May 2017 the chairman was the Bergheim-based author Peter Reutterer ; since then the young Salzburg lyricist Christopher Schmall has been working.

After it was founded, the Salzburg group of authors was the point of contact and advice for writers on all kinds of professional matters. She was also instrumental in founding the Salzburg House of Literature in 1991. The tasks include continuing the commemoration of the only book burning that took place in Austria on April 30, 1938 in the city of Salzburg by the National Socialists and of the authors persecuted by this regime, as well as the mediation of literature in public spaces and the material support of residents Authors, today especially in the form of organizing public appearances and the publication of anthologies . In addition, the association is dedicated to the literary promotion of young people, among other things in the form of the "Reading Adventure" series of events that has been carried out for over 20 years and is now integrated into the young people's program at the Literaturhaus.
