Wolfgang Danzmayr (born July 5, 1947 in Vienna ) is an Austrian composer, conductor and writer. The musician, author and former head of the ORF cultural department in the Salzburg regional studio now lives in Salzburg and Kőszeg (Hungary).

Life

Wolfgang Danzmayr, who grew up in Vienna, received his education at the humanistic grammar school BG 3, Kundmanngasse , as well as a pianistic education at the music school of the city of Vienna and privately with Christl Hauser. After graduating from high school, he studied composition with Alfred Uhl , conducting with Hans Swarowsky and electroacoustic music with Dieter Kaufmann at the Vienna University of Music . After taking master classes at the International Summer Academy of the Mozarteum in 1967, 1968 and 1969 with Bruno Maderna - and later in 1973 with Carl Melles - he graduated in 1970 as a conductor with the Kapellmeister diploma in Vienna. In the following academic year Danzmayr completed his conducting studies in Rome with Franco Ferrara at the Conservatorio di Musica “Santa Cecilia”. Conductors followed a. with the Lower Austrian Tonkünstler Orchestra , the Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra , the Carinthian Symphony Orchestra , the Collegium Musicum Carinthia , the Austrian Ensemble for New Music (oenm) , the ensemble “die reihe”, the Beethoven Philharmonic and the Kurpfälzisches Kammerorchester Mannheim.

From 1976 Danzmayr also worked at the ORF regional studio in Salzburg, where he was head of the music department from 1979 to 2009, from 2006 to 2009 also head of the culture department and, in the 1983/84 season, head of the serious music department in the Burgenland regional studio. As part of these activities, Danzmayr designed numerous programs for the radio programs Austria 1 , Radio Salzburg and Radio Burgenland .

After Wolfgang Danzmayr had led the orchestra of the Salzburg Cultural Association, an amateur orchestra, for six years, he and his wife Veronika Danzmayr-Steinbach founded the “Orchesterprojekt” in 2003, an organization that has existed since 2010 with the aim of promoting amateur musicians through workshops and to offer playing experience with professionals in an orchestra. The works, which are developed across generations, are publicly performed at various locations in the city and state of Salzburg. In 2017 the project received an award from the Pro-Arte Foundation of the State of Salzburg.

Wolfgang Danzmayr still appears today as a conductor and program designer. With the Beethoven Philharmonic and the Kurpfälzisches Kammerorchester he gave concerts in the “Haydn Region of Lower Austria” in 2017 (opening concert with the singer Sarah Marie Kramer ) and 2018 (with Julia Hagen as a soloist) with a focus on Johann Michael Haydn at Petronell Castle . In 2019 there was a follow-up concert with Wolfgang Brunner's Salzburg court music .

Wolfgang Danzmayr was a member of the Supervisory Board of the Salzburg Easter Festival until October 2018 ; He is also a board member of the IG Composers Salzburg, the regional interest group for composers, and board member of the Salzburg authors' group . He is married to the teacher and musician Veronika Danzmayr-Steinbach. His first marriage to Christina Danzmayr came from his son, the conductor David Danzmayr . Since 2010 Danzmayr has had a second residence in the Hungarian border town of Kőszeg.
