David Danzmayr

David Danzmayr (* 1980 in Austria ) is an Austrian conductor . He is chief conductor of the Zagreb Philharmonic and the ProMusica Chamber Orchestra in Columbus, Ohio.

Life

He studied at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg and at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki. He completed his studies in 2005 with the highest distinction. During his studies he received a conducting scholarship from the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra under Claudio Abbado and Pierre Boulez . In June 2006 he became musical director of the Ensemble Acrobat founded by Reinhard Febel and from December 2009 he was guest conductor of the Australian International Symphony Orchestra Institute (AISOI).

Danzmayr was assistant conductor of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra for three years and conducted the orchestra in more than 70 concerts in all leading concert halls in Scotland. As a guest conductor, Danzmayr has already conducted the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg and the Philharmonic Orchestra of the City of Heidelberg . He has already assisted conductors such as Neeme Järvi , Sir Andrew Davis and Pierre Boulez.

In 2012, Danzmayr conducted the opening concert of the Wörthersee Classics Festival .

From 2012 to 2016 he was music director of the Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra.

Since 2013 he has been chief conductor of the ProMusica Chamber Orchestra in Columbus, Ohio, and has also been chief conductor of the Zagreb Philharmonic since 2016 .

Awards

In 2005 Danzmayr took part in the Nikolai Malko competition , which takes place every three years , and won the talent award. In 2012 Danzmayr took part again in the Nikolai Malko competition and came fourth. The fourth prize is € 4,000. He was the only European conductor to reach the finals of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Sir Georg Solti Competition. He was awarded the Bernhard Paumgartner Medal by the International Mozarteum Foundation. In 2013 he won 2nd prize at the International Gustav Mahler Conducting Competition of the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra .
