Ana María Matute
Ana María Matute (born July 26, 1925 in Barcelona ; † June 25, 2014 there ) was a Spanish writer .
Life
Ana María Matute was the second of five children in a middle-class Catalan family. Her mother spoke Spanish (Castilian), her father - an umbrella manufacturer by trade - Catalan . She grew up in the Spanish Civil War . Her experiences from this time can be found in the sad topics of her books. She "challenged the Francoist authorities in the fifties and sixties with unsparing portrayals of an unfree, backward country".
honors and awards
- In 1959 she was awarded the Nadal Literature Prize for her novel First Memory .
- Since 1996 she has been a member of the Royal Spanish Academy , which oversees the Spanish language .
- In 2010 Matute was awarded the Cervantes Prize.
