Lieutenant Governor's Award for Literary Excellence
The Lieutenant Governor's Award for Literary Excellence is a Canadian literary award that is administered by the BC Book Prizes and has been awarded separately since 2004 to recognize the special contribution made by a writer to the further development of the literary quality of Canadian literature in British Columbia , as well as highlighting the substantial part of his literary oeuvre during his literary career to date.
The award winner will receive a financial recognition of Canadian dollars 5,000 and a certificate of appreciation.
prehistory
The Lieutenant Governor's Award for Literary Excellence was first developed in the spring of 2002. Led by the experienced and award-winning author Carol Shields , a group of renowned British Columbian writers met with the then Provincial Governor of British Columbia , the Honorable Iona Campagnolo to create a special provincial literary award. Inspired by Carol Shields, this meeting resulted in the establishment of the Lieutenant Governor's Award for Literary Excellence , which, like all other seven literary prizes of the BC Book Prizes since 2004, has been awarded in April each year.
