Dorothy Livesay Poetry Prize

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Dorothy Livesay Poetry Prize is a Canadian literary prize that has existed since 1986 and is part of the BC Book Prizes .

It is awarded annually in April to the best collection of poems written by a resident of British Columbia , Canada , or the Yukon Territory. Awardees do not have to be Canadian citizens but have lived in British Columbia or the Yukon Territory for at least three of the past five years. The books can also have been published in other regions or countries. Originally known as the BC Prize for Poetry , it was renamed in 1989 in honor of the poet Dorothy Livesay , whose poetry collections Day and Night (1944) and Poems for People (1947) received the Governor General's Award for Poetry . The 2011 winner was announced by hosts Bob Robertson and Linda Cullen at the Kay Meek Center, Vancouver , on April 21, 2011 at the Lieutenant Governor's BC Book Prize Gala. The shortlist for each year will be announced in March.
