Luca Giuliani
Luca Giuliani (born April 18, 1950 in Florence ) is a German classical archaeologist . From April 2007 to August 2018 he was rector of the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin .
Luca Giuliani studied classical archeology in Basel and Munich from 1969 to 1975 . After receiving his doctorate in 1975, he was initially a scientific employee from 1979 to 1992, from 1982 curator and later chief curator at the Antikensammlung of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin . In 1984 the Habilitation at the Archaeological Institute of the University of Heidelberg in 1986, the Habilitation at the Free University of Berlin . From 1992 to 1998 Giuliani was Professor of Classical Archeology at the University of Freiburg , from 1998 to 2007 Professor of Classical Archeology at the University of Munich, and since 2002 director of the Museum for Casts of Classical Images . In 2001 he was elected a full member of the humanities class of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences .
In July 2006 he was elected the new rector of the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin . He took office on April 1, 2007 as the successor to constitutional lawyer Dieter Grimm . The historian Barbara Stollberg-Rilinger took over the office from him on September 1, 2018. Giuliani has already been a Fellow of the Wissenschaftskolleg twice and has been a member of the Scientific Advisory Board since 2002. He is also a professor of classical archeology at the Humboldt University in Berlin . In 2010 Giuliani received the Sigmund Freud Prize for scientific prose ; since 2011 he has been a member of the Leopoldina learned society .
Giuliani lives in Berlin and Freiburg im Breisgau .
