Jean Moréas
Jean Moréas , actually Ioannis Papadiamantopoulos ( Greek Ιωάννης Παπαδιαμαντόπουλος , born April 15, 1856 in Athens ; † April 30, 1910 in Paris ) was a French poet and the grandson of Ioannis Papadiamantopoulos the Elder, one of the heroes of Mesolongi .
Life
Jean Moréas was initially one of the leading figures of the Symbolist movement in French literature and advocated the relaxation of the mandatory guidelines for French verse . On September 18, 1886, he published his manifesto Le symbolisme in the literary supplement to Figaro .
In 1892 he turned away from Symbolism in order to found the école romane , which contrasts the gloomy Nordic poetry with the clarity of Greco-Roman poetry. His most famous volume of poetry, Stances (1899), is an example of this new way of writing poetry in a classical language.
