Gerd-Peter Eigner
Gerd-Peter Eigner (actually Gerd-Peter Sobczyk ; born April 21, 1942 in Malapane , Upper Silesia ; † April 13, 2017 in Berlin ) was a German writer .
Life
Gerd-Peter Eigner was the son of a Reichsbahn official who was shot by Soviet troops in early 1945. His mother fled west with him. From 1949 he lived in Wilhelmshaven , where he attended a humanistic grammar school. After dropping out of school prematurely, he volunteered at the Wilhelmshavener Zeitung . He then went to Paris , where he carried out various activities. In 1961 he returned to Germany and continued his education at a business school in Oldenburg (Oldenburg) . In 1964 he passed his school leaving examination and began studying economics , sociology and history at the University of Hamburg . He continued it in 1965 at the University of Education in Oldenburg (Oldenburg), where he passed the teaching examination in 1968. From 1969 to 1971 he worked as a teacher for children with behavioral disorders at a special school and a home in Bremen . Since 1971 he has been a freelance writer.
In the following years, Eigner changed his whereabouts frequently: from 1972 he lived in Crete , from where he was expelled by the Greek military junta in 1973, in 1973 in Toulouse , 1974 in Formentera , 1975 again in Crete, 1976 in Bremen, 1978 in Berlin and from 1980 in Paris. Most recently, Eigner lived alternately in Berlin and in Olevano Romano, Italy .
The owner was the author of novels , essays and radio plays . Self-reflection and self-analysis of problematic characters play an important role in his narrative works.
Eigner, who belonged to the Association of German Writers from 1972 to 1986 and was a member of the PEN Center Germany , received various grants, among others, the following awards: 1978 the radio play award of the Austrian radio and the culture award of the city of Bocholt , 1979 a Villa Massimo grant , 1982 the city clerk's office of Burg Kniphausen near Wilhelmshaven, 1983 the sponsorship award for the Silesian Culture Prize of Lower Saxony , 2005 the Dr. Manfred Jahrmarkt-Ehrengabe of the German Schiller Foundation as well as the Eichendorff Literature Prize in 2009 and the Kranichsteiner Literature Prize for his complete works, in particular for his novel The Italian Enthusiasm , published in 2008 . In July 2010 Eigner received the Nicolas Born Prize, endowed with 15,000 euros .
