Suzanne Collins (born August 10, 1962 in Hartford , Connecticut ) is an American author of cartoons and children's and youth literature . Her trilogy, The Hunger Games , has sold over 100 million copies worldwide.

Life

Suzanne Collins' career began in 1991 as a writer for American children's television, including Nickelodeon . She was inspired by the American children's author James Proimos to write children's books herself.

She was inspired by the story of Alice in Wonderland to write her first book, Gregory and the Gray Prophecy . The first volume of a five-part adventure series, published in 2003, became an international bestseller. The book is about Gregor and his little sister Boots, who arrive in the so-called Unterland, where they experience numerous adventures. The capital of the people living there is called "Regalia".

In September 2008, Scholastic Press published The Hunger Games , the first book in a new trilogy by Collins. In 2009 the German translation by Sylke Hachmeister and Peter Klöss was published under the title The Hunger Games - Deadly Games and proved to be a success. The book has sold millions of copies. The content was partly inspired by Roman history (allusion in the title to → Panem et circenses ) and, according to Collins' statements, by her father's career in the United States Air Force , which gave her a better understanding of hunger and poverty and the effects of war gave. At the center of the plot of the first volume is the 16-year-old Katniss, who takes the place of her younger sister Prim in the "Hunger Games" when she is to be sent into the arena for a life and death fight. The sequels The Hunger Games - Dangerous Love and the Finale The Hunger Games - Flaming Wrath appeared in 2010 and 2011.

Collins was named one of Time magazine's 100 Most Influential People of 2010 list. The author also worked on the script for the film adaptation of the first part of the Hunger Games trilogy. In October 2019, the new title of her novel about the prehistory of The Hunger Games was revealed: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes . The German title of the book is The Hunger Games X - The Song of Bird and Snake . It was released on May 19, 2020 in the USA and Germany.

Suzanne Collins lives in Connecticut with her husband and two children.
