Imperial Castle

The Imperial Castle is the ruin of a hilltop castle at 454  m above sea level. NHN high "Ulrichsberg" (Arrach) on the southern side of the Danube 1000 meters northwest of the church of the municipality of Oberhausen in the district of Neuburg-Schrobenhausen in Bavaria .

history

The castle was probably built as an imperial castle in 1197 and mentioned in 1280. The castle was owned by the Counts of Graisbach-Lechsgemünd . The castle formed the easternmost point of the Graisbach possessions south of the Danube. The castle hat of the imperial castle was handed over by the Graisbachers to their fiefs , the knights of Straß. In 1270 the County of Neuburg was seized by the Wittelsbachers and the castles were destroyed. In 1386 the castle was finally destroyed. Only the remains of the wall remain from the former castle.

Emperor Heinrich the saint is said to have stayed here once. That is why the castle was called "Imperial Castle" by the residents.
