history

Until the end of the 16th century, where the castle stands today, there was a thick, square bolstered tower, to which a castle was then added. The owners were the Counts of Graisbach .

After several changes of rule, Baron Franz Fortunat von Ysselbach , who was, among other things, Electoral Palatinate General, Governor of Mannheim and Imperial General Feldzeugmeister, bought Bertoldsheim in the first years of the 18th century . He had a representative baroque palace built there between 1714 and 1730 with a 25- day park landscape . He commissioned the Swiss Prince-Bishop Eichstätter Hofbaudirektor Gabriel de Gabrieli as construction manager .

In 1790 the man and knight feuds passed to the barons of Hornstein . Baron Adam Bernhard von Hornstein-Göffingen had some of the interiors beautified, redesigned the park and laid out a lime tree alley, some of which still exists today or has been reforested. In 1800 the court factor of the Bavarian king, Count von Eckart († 1828), bought Hofmark Bertoldsheim, which finally passed to his son-in-law, General Count Charles Du Moulin-Eckart . In 1856 the entire area came into the possession of his son, Count Karl Marcell Du Moulin-Eckart.

In 1945/46 American soldiers abducted art treasures.

The family of Karl Leon Du Moulin-Eckart was the castle owner until 2008. Eva Countess Du Moulin-Eckart (née Kusche), as the owner of the castle, sold movable art treasures such as baroque chests of drawers, oil paintings, books, busts, engravings and desk secretaries through the Sotheby’s action house in 2005 .

A couple of doctors and art collectors acquired the baroque building with its surrounding park and outbuildings in 2008 and would like to house their private ethnographic museum there. The outdoor facilities are currently being renovated.
