action

Jocelyn wants to divorce her husband Dennis to protect her two children DJ and Mary Sue. He is prone to physical assaults against his son DJ. Since the court cannot find evidence of domestic violence against DJ Dennis , it awards him shared custody . An envelope is leaked to Jocelyn in the courtroom. This contains information on how to achieve a ring of people that will help mothers and their children flee from their husbands.

Dennis immediately makes use of the rights granted to him by the court and picks up his two children from Jocelyn. However, DJ forgot his insulin so he called his mother from his father's house. Jocelyn then sets off to bring him the insulin he needs. Meanwhile, Mary Sue breaks a glass vase with a ball. DJ stands protectively in front of her and claims to his father that the vase broke. Dennis then grabs the boy again.

When Jocelyn reaches her husband's house, she finds her son crying. She then wants to take her children back with her immediately. But Dennis stands in her way and pushes her to the ground. A revolver falls out of their handouts. DJ grabs it and shoots his father in the buttocks. He also stabs his leg with a knife.

Jocelyn and her two children flee from her husband by car. The woman, now wanted by the police for child abduction, uses a public payphone at the train station to contact the group that has offered to help her escape. At a diner, she is picked up by Jim, who drives her to a remote house in the country, where a clergyman is already giving shelter to a father with his son and daughter. The rules for fugitives are simple, they are not allowed to leave the house in order not to be seen. However, Mary Sue does not adhere to it and a little later the police arrive. While the man, who was also on the run, opened fire on the police officers, Jim, Jocelyn, DJ and Mary Sue managed to escape.

Jim pretends to Jocelyn that he lost his children a long time ago to his wife and her new lover. In fact, he works for the FBI . Its job is to determine who is responsible for the transfer across the border into Canada . While Jim continues on his way towards the Canadian border with the fugitive family, Dennis pressures investigators to take him to his children. Jim's colleagues agree to arrange a meeting with Jim for him. Dennis uses the situation, however, to start a hunt for his children. Only through Jim's courageous intervention does Jocelyn manage to escape again with her children.

You finally reach a frozen lake, on whose ice surface a small plane lands. Jocelyn boarded the plane with her children, but before they could take off, Dennis reached the plane and blocked one of the oars. Jocelyn then decides to get out of the plane with her revolver in order to unblock the oar. Jim is waiting for her at the stern of the plane. She points the gun at him so he doesn't get any closer to her. A shot is fired and Jim sinks to the floor. Dennis appears behind him, who shot Jim. Jocelyn removes the wood that is blocking the rudder and gets back on the plane. While the family is leaving the country, Dennis is arrested by the incoming police, while FBI agents deal with the shot Jim.
