Rolling block closure

Remington rolling block clasp

The "rolling block" lock or rotating block lock is a locking system for weapons for which the Remington company applied for a patent in 1863 . It was developed by Leonard M. Geiger and awarded a silver medal at the Paris World Exhibition in 1867 .

The functioning of the rotary block lock is relatively simple. An axle-mounted block is tilted backwards with the cock cocked, thus releasing the cartridge chamber. After the weapon has been loaded, the block is tilted up again to close the chamber. As soon as you pull the trigger , the block is locked by the fast tap and the cartridge can ignite safely.

After the cartridge has fired, cock the hammer again, open the unlocked block and remove the case in order to reload the weapon.
