João Aguiar

João Casimiro Namorado de Aguiar (born October 26, 1943 in Lisbon ; † June 3, 2010 ibid) was a Portuguese writer .

biography

Aguiar, who spent his childhood in his hometown Lisbon and in Beira in Mozambique , studied journalism at the Université Libre de Bruxelles after attending school . After his return to Portugal in 1976 he worked as a journalist for the public broadcaster Rádio e Televisão de Portugal . He also worked as a journalist and editor for the daily newspapers Diário de Notícias , A Luta, Diário Popular, O País and Sábado. In 1981 he became an employee of the press department of the Ministry of Health.

As a writer, he mainly devoted himself to the former Portuguese colony of Macau , which he first visited in the late 1980s.

His most important novels published by Livros do Oriente include:

  • Os Comedores de Pérolas (The Pearl Eaters of Macau), 1992
  • Inês de Portugal (The Lady-in-Waiting), 1997
  • O Dragão de Fumo (The Tobacco Dragon), 1998
  • A Catedral Verde (The Green Cathedral), 2000
  • O Tigre Sentado (The Seated Tiger), 2005

Most recently, João Aguiar published O Priorado do Cifrão, a crime parody of Dan Brown's world success The Da Vinci Code . He was also very popular as an author of books for young people ; the O Bando dos Quatro series has well over 20 volumes.

In addition, excerpts from his works have appeared in the journal Jornal Ponto Final .
