Undraynian Point

View over Kames Bay. Undraynian Point is the location of the building across the bay, which formerly housed a fish processing company.

Undraynian Point is a small cape in the east of the Scottish island of Bute . It protrudes in a south-easterly direction into the Kyles of Bute , which separates the island from the Cowal Peninsula , and forms the southern tip of a small headland . The closest settlements are Ardmaleish, directly northwest, and Port Bannatyne, 1.5 km to the south . The northern end of the headland marks Ardmaleish Point . On the opposite side of the Kyles of Bute, Ardyne Point jumps out. Undraynian Point marks the northern end of Kames Bay , which opens nearly two kilometers to Ardbeg Point .

There is evidence of early settlement in the area around Undraynian Point. There was a large menhir there , which is shown on a map from the 1780s. It is also listed in later maps and was last described in 1976. Today the whereabouts of the stone that used to stand in the middle of a cultivated field is unknown. Undraynian Point has been described as the location of a fish processing plant since the mid-19th century. While two large ponds were still present when it was first mentioned, they seem to have already been partially filled in in 1897. The operation has meanwhile been given up and the ponds are no longer available today. However, the buildings are still partially preserved. North of the cape, a boat builder's building is right on the shore. The location has been described since the end of the 19th century.
