The Unduavi slender- pouch rat ( Cryptonanus unduaviensis ) is a species of marsupial that occurs in the Bolivian lowlands and in the north of Paraguay ( Alto Paraguay department ). It got its name from its terra typica on the Rio Unduavi .

The animals reach a head trunk length of 8.6 to 12.1 cm, have a 11.2 to 13.5 cm long tail and reach a weight of 15 to 40 g. The gray-brown tail is about 20% longer than the head and torso combined. The fur on the back and the top of the head are gray-brown to reddish, darker along the center line of the back and lighter on the sides of the body. The face is also a little lighter. There are narrow, dark circles around the eyes. The underside of the body is whitish to orange with a narrow white stripe down the center of the chest. The fur is long. The feet are narrow. In older males, the metatarsus is covered with tubercles. Females do not have a pouch. The number of teats is unknown.

Habitat and way of life

The habitat of the Unduavi slim-pouch rat consists of humid, seasonally flooded grasslands and marshes. So far, nothing is known about the way of life, behavior, nutrition of the animals and their reproductive behavior.

The IUCN does not provide any information about the population and the degree of endangerment of the Unduavi slender-pouch rat , since neither the exact distribution area is known nor information about the population of the species can be given.
