Hungarian Bieling

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hungarian Bieling ( Hungarian Magyarbükkös or Magyarbüks) was a small farming village in western Hungary that no longer exists today.

The village was in Vas County in the Körmend region and belonged to the municipality of Csákánydoroszló.

history

Hungarian Bieling was first mentioned in a document in 1375. At that time, poss. Bykus and altera Bykus meant two settlements, the upper and the lower Hungarian Bieling. Later the village was called

  • 1418: Bykus
  • 1425: Bixy, Bykesd
  • 1482: Bykes
  • 1494: Felsewbykes (= upper Bykes)
  • 1498: Bywx

In Hungarian Bieling there was a castle complex Várdomb and Sírdomb. As documented, there was a mill in Hungarian Bieling in 1482.

In 1921 the villages of Hagensdorf , Deutsch Bieling and two years later Luising became part of Austria, while Hungarian Bieling, located directly on the border, stayed with Hungary and its inhabitants belonged to the parish of Hagensdorf. The mill in the small village was allowed to be used by the Austrians now.

After the Second World War, the inhabitants were resettled or they voluntarily moved across the border and settled in the nearby Burgenland villages - for example in the neighboring communities of Heiligenbrunn, Kemestaródfa or Csákány. Most of the houses were demolished and the village was dissolved.

When Ms. Rozália Tóth left the village in 1958, the village of Hungarian Bieling became uninhabited.

Today only the overgrown remains of the mill weir can be seen. They are the only witnesses to the disappeared village. The cemetery is completely dilapidated, only a cross still protrudes into the sky.
