Deutsch Bieling ( Hungarian : Németbükkös , Némethbükkös ) is one of five districts of the municipality of Heiligenbrunn in southern Burgenland and its own cadastral municipality . In addition to Deutsch Bieling, the place Hungarian Bieling , which has now disappeared from the map, also existed .

geography

The place has 95 inhabitants on an area of 546 hectares (as of June 2012).

Deutsch Bieling is located in the south-east of the main town of Heiligenbrunn and is about two kilometers to the south and about one kilometer to the south-east from the border with Hungary . The neighboring town to the east is Hagensdorf in Burgenland . There is no neighboring town on Hungarian territory.

history

The first documented mention comes from the year 1375 as Bikkes , Bykews and Bükkes . According to other records, the place first appeared in 1225. In a document of the Batthyány - Urbarium from the year 1750 Hans Peltzmann appears as "judge" (at that time mayor ) and Stefan Zopf, Georg Huber and Hans Fandl as "jury" (at that time local councilors ).

Since 1812 there was a school in Deutsch Bieling. The community acquired a private house for this purpose and converted it for it. The first teacher was Franz Janisch. After this building no longer met in 1851, the students were taught in Heiligenbrunn. A new schoolhouse was built in 1874/75.

Until 1921, Deutsch Bieling, like all of Burgenland, belonged to German West Hungary. After the end of the First World War , the municipality was awarded to Austria on the basis of the treaties of St. Germain and Trianon in 1919. As a result, the mill became a problem for the farmers , as the border that had arisen led directly past it. However, an amical solution was found: The Austrians were still allowed to bring in their grain, but required a “horse passport”. If there was no such item, the last piece had to be carried or picked up by the miller. Since the Hungarian state claimed water rights from 1939 , the mill was closed.

Although the primary school was still being rebuilt in 1960, it was closed in 1967 due to insufficient student numbers.

In the course of the amalgamation of municipalities in 1971, together with Hagensdorf , Luising and Reinersdorf, they were incorporated near Heiligenbrunn.

traffic

Landesstraße 248 leads to Deutsch Bieling, which branches off from Geschrittenstein Straße (B 56) east of Strem and runs through Heiligenbrunn. From Deutsch Bieling the state road 404 leads to Hagensdorf in Burgenland.

  • Catholic Filial Church of the Holy Trinity - The church was built in 1898 thanks to the generosity of Rosalia Trautmann, who supported the construction with 300 florins . Only 500 florins came from Emperor Franz Josef . Before this church was built, Deutsch Bieling was part of the Heiligenbrunn parish.

societies

At the Deutsch Bieling village square

The volunteer fire brigade Deutsch Bieling was founded in 1924. As of January 1, 2012, the team comprised a total of 21 athletes, including one woman. Roland Budal has been in command since January 1, 2003. The fire brigade has a small fire engine and a portable pump. On May 22, 2005, the new fire station was blessed. The new building was necessary because the old fire station was too small and no longer corresponded to the current standard.

It is noteworthy that since 1979 almost all funerals in Deutsch Bieling have been carried out by the volunteer fire brigade.

Hungarian Bieling

Since the place is called Deutsch Bieling, there must also have been a "Hungarian Bieling" (Hungarian: Magyarbükkös ). However, this counterpart cannot be found on today's maps. However, you will find it on old maps, where you will find this place, which belongs to the municipality of Csákánydorozló ( Vas County ), immediately after the present-day border . The mill mentioned in the history section was also located there. The village consisted of about ten houses, a cemetery and an inn. Like the neighboring villages of Hagensdorf and Luising, the place was inhabited by Swabians . In Hagensdorf, the residents also went to church and the students to school, where they were taught in German. In 1946 the place was abandoned because there were no more residents. Two families moved away as early as 1938 and 1939. When the political situation against the Germans in Hungary came to a head, the remaining families fled to Austria on May 27, 1946. Since then the place has been left to decay.

On the initiative of local history researcher Karl Böö, efforts have been made since 2008 in collaboration with Tibor Jojart, Balint Sandor and Istvan Horvath to record the history of the place and to make the cemetery accessible again. For this purpose, the cemetery was cleared of vegetation and an access road from Austria and a symbolic bridge were built.
