Hungarian Parliament Scholarship

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Hungarian Parliamentary Scholarship was created in 2008 by the Hungarian Parliament (Országgyűlés) for young German citizens based on the International Parliamentary Scholarship of the German Bundestag ( IPS ), in which around five young Hungarian citizens have participated every year since 1990 . This is intended to strengthen the exchange character of the respective programs and to give the German scholarship holders a deeper and comprehensive insight into the political system of the Republic of Hungary .

history

On the basis of an agreement between the former President of the Hungarian Parliament Katalin Szili and the President of the German Bundestag Norbert Lammert , scholarships from the Hungarian Parliament were awarded to three young German citizens for two months for the first time in 2008. With the 2010 scholarship, the duration was extended by one to three months. Interested students should be given the opportunity to better combine the parliamentary scholarship with their studies and have it recognized as an internship. For the same reason, one of the tasks of the scholarship holders has been to write a research paper on a topic linked to the Hungarian political system.

scholarship

The grant is under the patronage of the President of the Hungarian Parliament and is financed and coordinated by the Hungarian Parliament. In addition to a financial donation of 600 euros per month, the Hungarian Parliament pays the costs for travel to and from the hotel, accommodation, local public transport and all travel within the framework of the program.

program

The scholarship differs significantly from the program of the International Parliamentary Scholarship of the German Bundestag. Although it was originally officially referred to as a parliamentary internship, the term is misleading. Since, on the one hand, knowledge of the Hungarian language is not a prerequisite for applying for a parliamentary scholarship and, on the other hand, members of the Hungarian Parliament do not have comparable office capacities to their colleagues in the German Bundestag, the scholarship holders are not assigned to various members of parliament as interns during their stay. Rather, the program is designed as a kind of theory in which, as a scholarship holder, you can take on the role of observer: lectures at Andrássy University, various parliamentary bodies, political and socio-political institutions, counties and municipalities as well as specialist conferences are attended and important public and political figures are attended and social life. Thus, the focus is on the intensive communicative exchange, whereby scholarship holders can get a comprehensive as well as in-depth differentiated insight into the political system of the Republic of Hungary, which they should record in a research work on a specific topic that concludes the program.

Selection criteria

Applicants for the Hungarian Parliamentary Scholarship are German citizens and not older than 30 years. In addition, they must have a university degree (at least a Bachelor's) in law, political science, administration or economics and have a good command of spoken English.

Alumni group

With the second year of scholarship holders, former scholarship holders have been organizing an alumni group since 2009 in order to maintain contact with one another and to provide information about the program in Germany.
