Unigenitus Dei filius (1713)
Unigenitus Dei filius (Latin "God's only begotten son "), also called Constitutio Unigenitus or contemporary "la Constitution", is a 1713 by Pope Clement XI. drafted bull . In it, at the insistence of Louis XIV of France, he is directed against Jansenism and in particular against the work Abrégé de la morale de l'Évangile ou Pensées chrétiennes sur le texte des quatre évangelistes by Pasquier Quesnel . The bull was controversial among the bishops and thus indirectly weakened the papal position. However, the anti-Jansenist direction, strongly represented by the Jesuits , prevailed in the period that followed.
