Bait

Bätscher or Dätscher are a local culinary specialty from the Swabian Alb foreland. The Bätscher / Dätscher consists of a yeast dough that is coated with a sour cream mixture before baking . Chives, onions, pieces of ham, caraway seeds, etc. can be sprinkled on top of this sour cream mixture (not to be confused with a tarte flambée ). The original shape is oval, although the ends could also be pointed. Today it is sometimes baked on oven trays and cut into square pieces.

Places where the Bätscher is baked are, for example, Holzmaden , Notzingen, where a Dätscher festival is celebrated every year, and Weilheim an der Teck with its sub-town Hepsisau. The town center in Holzmaden is also known as the Bätscher due to its shape.
