Univar is a US chemicals distributor. The company was founded in 1924 as a trading company for dyes, cotton fibers and other products and soon expanded its business area to include industrial chemicals . In the decades that followed, Univar continued to grow through acquisitions and is now one of the largest companies for chemical distribution. Univar employs over 9,000 people and achieved sales of 8.3 billion US dollars in 2017. Univar was temporarily a subsidiary of the Dutch company Vopak and its predecessor companies, but was separated from this in 2002.
